Dear Family & Friends,
Since leaving Kingston we had another damp, cold, beautiful ride north to Vermont. We stayed in Stowe which is a beautiful small town that looks like something out of a Disneyland movie!
There we visited my wife’s nephew, David Cohen. Unfortunately his family was out of town but we had a great visit with David. What an impressive man. I’ve known him since he was 10 years old and he is turning 50 this year! I guess that means we are both getting old.
I admire the life he has built full of adventure and excellent family values. He met his lovely wife in Africa when they were both in the peace corp. After the Peace Corp David went to work for the USAID and they moved back to various parts of Africa with his family for 20 years!, He did foreign aid work and his wife a practicing nurse. Both doing work to better the world while raising two charming daughters!
First David took us to the Von Trapp Brewery (yes the family from the sound of music) and we had some excellent German style beer and reminisced about his life and he even remembered the XK120 Jaguar I drove him up Hwy1 to Monterey for the races. I also took him to the Tonight Show to meet Jay Leno. To do that he needed to take Friday off school. When he told his teacher she hardly believed him so that night after we watched the taping of the Tonight Show Jay invited us up on the stage. When David told him what his teacher said he grabbed a cue card from the show and on the back he wrote a personal letter to the teacher asking her to excuse David from school that day. (He’s so kind). The following Monday David went to school and handed the note to his teacher. David told me the note is still framed and hanging in the school!
The next morning we took off to ride across Vermont, through New Hampshire and to Augusta, Maine for the night. The morning ride was cold and rainy. It never got out of the 40s. We stopped for coffee around 11am and when we hit the road again the rain stopped, the roads dried out, and warmed up all the way to 61!! The ride was beautiful through lush green country side and quaint villages.
Tomorrow we head over to the coast and ride up to Camden to meet our friend John Kincade who is flying in from California and being a native of Maine will lead us on a lobster tour to Canada!!
Looking forward to more good times!! Check out the videos and pictures below.
