It has been a while since I blogged but now that my life is changing and slowing down it gives me more time to report, pontificate, and BS. So here goes.. After 46 years of running a business I finally am fully retired. I have to say I was fortunate to make a living out of passion and the living was good but I do think after 46 years it was a few years too many. I was more than ready for this and I am enjoying every minute of it.
While I no longer run a business I actually get to do more of what I love, the hands on work of restoring classic cars and motorcycles. I currently have enough projects going to keep me busy until at least another 25 years!
I also plan to keep traveling to far away places and new adventures so I will have plenty to write about and share with you all.
I will write regularly about the various interesting vehicles I am working on . I will write about my travels, and I will write about food. All my passions.
Today was the perfect example of my new found freedom. A group of good friends decided to go for a motorcycle ride and I didn’t have to think about work or obligations. I just went. We rode out highway 58 to McKitrick to the world famous Penny Bar. A road side cafe completely decorated in pennies.. Very classy. The ride to and from was terrific . Highway 58 is 70 miles of twisting pavement covering vast areas of ranching, solar farms, wildlife, and beautiful spring flowers. The weather was warm, the traffic light and my motorcycle ran flawlessly. The group of friends I went with are all great guys which adds to the day. So all and all a great day.. Life is good.
The ride had to start with a stop at the Blackhorse for my morning coffee and to meet up with friends. My trustee steed, a BMW R1200RS. Due to all the rain this winter the hills are still green. Certainly no traffic out here. The “men” posing for photos.. We ride was an assortment of motorcycles but I give it to Pat to ride a 45 year old Brit bike out into the middle of nowhere. My friend Jeff and I are a “bit” obsessed with Facebook so we are always taking photos of each other to post! The world famous Penny Bar! Notice the sign above the door? All made from pennies. A classic seedy joint. More pennies. Again with the phone! Please note.. I am TRYING to be healthy.. Everyone is having a cheeseburger with fries and I am suffering with a salad. The “Gang”, Jeff, Brian, Pat. Senior Citizen Bikers. An more pennies! The California Solar Power Farm. Lots of space and lots of sun!
